I am constantly Wowed by the classic beauty of Diane von Furstenberg’s collections every season. Consistently clean yet always exciting, DVF never disappoints. But there’s been a little shaking up the last two seasons. Her right hand man, Yvan Mispelaere has been bringing a very modern edge to what is still very much the DVF we know and know. This fall’s RTW collection was no different. Titled, ‘Rendezvous’ , Diane said it was “about seduction”. There were a few close-fitting dresses with overcoats thrown over. But the winner here was the very wise and strategic use of color. A lot of fall collections tend to lean towards black, but Mispelaere used bold colors within the beautifully textured black looks. Neons and hot pinks are seen throughout the collection, and don’t worry, DVF is still Queen of color-blocking. I loved the very bright teal with the red calf-length skirt look. An unexpected, but very wearable example of the technique. Also in my favorites were the beautifully draped jumpsuits. A great transition piece from spring to fall or vice-versa. I absolutely loved this collection and I am very excited about the new direction the brand is headed in. DVF has made a smart decision about how to segway into a more modern look, without losing its biggest customer base. Very smart and very chic.
