New York Fashion Week: Duro Olowu Fall 2012 RTW

17 Feb

I had the opportunity to see Duro Olowu’s Spring 2012 Collection at his Milk Studios presentation and one thing is for sure, he is nowhere near afraid of color or print. His vibrant collections are always eye-catching and impactful. This season Olowu was inspired by Egon Schiele’s painting Self Portrait in Peacock Waistcoat. The Fall 2012 RTW collection included many of Duro’s favorite techniques. Print mixing, feminine silhouettes, and bright colors, however, the inspiration of the painting more tonal print mixing. A beautiful “flapper” like dress was beautifully cut, with an extremely flattering silhouette would be a daring, but great choice for one of young Hollywood’s brightest on the red carpet. Should you be able to get past what seems like Duro’s madness, I think women will find his collections rather inviting and always wearable.
