Inspired by top-notch Fashion eccentrics Anna Piaggi and Lynn Yaeger, Marc Jacobs Fall 2012 RTW Collection reminded me why he is in my tope 3 American designers. This off-kilter production was perfect from set design to clothing construction. Though the set was inpsired by “Marie Antionette’s version of ruins” said designer Rachel Feinstein, the actual collection took us away from the French and towards America’s beginnings at Plymouth Rock. Models wore pilgrim-buckle shoes with stacked heels only to be contrasted again by their looks. Apparently Anna Piaggi never left her house without a hat, and not one of the models graced the runway without one. Made of multi-colored mink, the hats reminded me of something the Mad Hatter would make, and The Cat in the Hat would wear. The were tilted every which way and I loved the amount of whimsy that these accessories brought to the show. Jacobs reminded me that fashion is art, you have the ability to make things as real or as UNreal as you so choose. His use of color, texture, and silhouette was definitely a force to be reckoned with. Kudos to this show, definitely my favorite of the New York bunch!!
