London Fashion Week: McQ Fall 2012 RTW

Last, but certainly not least in London is the runway debut of McQ, a more affordable line of Alexander McQueen. I have been back and forth about the newly appointed creative director Sarah Burton since she came onto the scene, but she has done an impeccable job of bringing the McQ brand to the runway. What I loved most about this collection was that it really reads a lot like what McQueen himself would create. Wanting to show on the premise that clothes should be beautiful at any price, Burton manage to translate some of McQueen’s major creative elements like romanticism, dark glamour, and amazing tailoring so that a larger audience will be able to understand them. Though it pains me to say that she has dumbed-down Alexander McQueen’s ideas, I hope that this brand will become wildly successful because it still represents the things he held dear. I look forward to seeing where the brand goes over the next few years.
